Does Area Decide Design?
As I was walking down Dickson St. last week, I noticed a sign up that says Waffle House opening soon. I looked in the window and noticed the design hasn't changed even though it was in one of the most well known buildings in the region. Located on the ground floor of the Underwood Plaza Building, Waffle House will be serving up their food 24/7 in a restaurant that looks like every other one in the country. I wounder why didn't they change their style to better fit to their environment? So many questions...................so little answers.
I think that this is a design travesty and should be noted that this is a wasted opportunity. Why allow something that is synonymous with late night riff-raff be located in a building that is synonymous with style. Anyone have any opinions?

I think that Waffle House has an image to uphold of being the place that anyone (and I mean anyone) can go to. If they make the waffle house more upscale, would anyone still go to it?

ReplyDeleteI agree. Next the the University, Dickson street is what Fayetteville is known for (and technically the two go hand-in-hand) but with that is the funky local businesses and restaurants...Waffle House and Chipotle don't quite fit that criteria
ReplyDeleteI like the round pendant lights they are using..atleast those are dffrent. I am half excited that there will be another option besides overpriced sunerise, geno's, and jimmy john's and half sharing your feelings.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the above statements. What makes Fayetteville, and Dickson street specifically, so great is that there are so many independent businesses. Waffle House will do very well in that location but it would be great if they updated their design to match the environment.
